Oscar Red Carpet

The Oscar

Welcome back beauties! Today is all about the fashion that took over the red carpet last night at the Oscars! Here are my picks for best dressed men, women and couples along with worst dressed! Each look will receive either a gold, silver or bronze Red Bottomed Heel award! So lets get down to it!
Best Dressed Women

Best Dressed Women

Of course, my ultimate fashion gold of the night HAS to go to the incomparable and beautiful golden girl of the night, Lupita Nyong'o. She has been killing it this awards season and I just knew she'd knock the Oscars right out of the park too. She has just been a breathe of fresh air to the fashion world. The pale blue of her Prada dress is perfect (she said it reminded her of her home Nairobi) on her and the silhouette is just so effortlessly beautiful. Plus, how adorable is she? I'm so happy she won last night and her speech was just so moving (I actually teared up). I loved that she ended her speech with such inspirational words: "No matter where you're from, your dreams are valid.", showing just about everyone that it is possible to have your dreams come true.

Now, if last night wasn't all about the golden girl Lupita, this would have definitely taken fashion gold: Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace. Now THIS is a movie star. This outfit is something you would see in fashion heaven. That almost satin white fabric, the way it photographed and glimmered in the light, her vixen hair, and the show stopper - that cape! Her outfit looked amazing from all angles and I loved that she removed the cape when she was presenting later on in the  night. One of the most fabulous looks of the night and appropriately earns fashion silver!
Best Dressed Women

My last absolute favourite of the night was a hard choice because it was just as amazing as the previous two but I just had to give it up to Charlize Theron in Christian Dior (of course Dior wouldn't let the face of their most popular perfume show up looking bland!). I feel like no matter what she was wearing, she would have pulled it off just because the way she carries herself. She has such an effortless confidence whenever she walks the carpet and especially in this dress she looks like the beautiful, statuesque movie star that she is. The simple makeup, simple jewelry and sleek hair paired perfectly with the exquisitely crafted gown.

Honourable Mentions
Honourable Mentions

Now although those mentioned above were my standouts, there are some honourable mentions, including Jennifer Garner in Oscar de la Renta, Kate Blanchet in Armani PrivĂ© (I just think she ALWAYS looks fabulous) and Kelly Osbourne (she looks like an old glamour star!) to name a few!

Worst Dressed

Now other than the rare exceptions above, I think these Oscars were a little underwhelming overall. You would think the nominees would come looking absolutely flawless in comparison to the presenters but it was just the opposite - it didn't make sense. Many of the stars looks were the wrong fabric, the wrong colour or just even the wrong dress. Some only needed a pop of colour from a big statement earring or a necklace to just make their look shine. There were even some looks that stars wore to the after parties that I thought looked MUCH better than the ones on the red carpet and would've been perfect if someone wore them to the Oscars like Mindy Kaling's dress  , Taylor Swift's and Khloe Kardashian's (like I really don't get what happened!). It's a weird day in Hollywood when Oscar nominees come looking worse than stars who are their to present an award for less that 60 seconds.

Worst Dressed

I think the biggest disappointment of the night was Jennifer Lawrence. I really don't get how people are including her on best dressed lists. She was nominated for an Oscar and she shows up in the plainest dress ever (it looks like they tried to add life to it by adding the peplum but it just didn't work - it looks more like an afterthought) and with her hair looking like she just got out of the shower (I absolutely HATE the sleeked back greased back look on women). She could have worn any dress in the world and she wore this. Like I said, it's really disappointing to see that someone like Kate Hudson who was just a presenter look like the real nominee last night when compared to Jennifer - I just don't get it.

Best Dressed Men

Best Dressed Men
When it came to best dressed men - it was just a no brainer. Of course it's hard to stand out as a man on a red carpet with all the suits but I feel there are ways of adding a little excitement to the sea of black and white.

First up with fashion gold for the mens is the brilliant Kevin Spacey. His royal blue suit blew all the young actors boring classic suits out of the water. It's so great to see someone with such a great career still be on top of fashion.

Fashion silver has to go to Bradley Cooper. Now although his suit was the classic look, I feel this is the way a classic black and white suit should be done. It was tailored to perfection, the black buttons on his dress shirt added the right touch of class while the satin lapels and bow tie just topped the whole look.

Finally with fashion bronze is my future husband Joseph Gordon- Levitt. Like Bradley's suit, Joe's was tailored to perfection but what I loved most about his suit was that the fabric had an interesting texture and pattern to it that simply popped in pictures. The contrast of the black lapels against his almost indigo coloured suit tied everything together.

Best Dressed Couples

Now I couldn't choose just one couple for each award so I decided to choose the best three for each gold, silver and bronze!

Best Dressed Couples
Alright, alright, alright! Of course between the three gorgeous couples that have obtained fashion gold, high honours have to go to another big winner last night, Matthew Mcconaughey* and his beautiful wife Camilla Alves (an example of a beautiful dress a nominated actress could've worn). They both just look like dolls and their individual outfits compliment each other perfectly. Plus, how amazing was Matthew's speech? It was so humble and inspiring - I love the idea he mentioned of something to look up to, something to look forward to and someone to chase - so beautiful. Of course Brangelina just always look amazing but I was pleasantly surprised by Harrison Ford and Calista Flockheart! I can only hope that my future husband and I look that chic and put together at that age!

(*p.s. For those who think Leo should have won best actor over Matthew, go watch Dallas Buyers Club and even True Detective to see how amazing and versatile of an actor he is becoming - I know he doesn't have the greatest acting track record, but he really is coming along. I feel in recent years, Leo has just been playing a variation of the same character but undoubtedly, his earlier work was a lot more promising of an Oscar than his current films. For overall career, Leo's earlier work obviously takes the cake - but keep in mind the Oscar is for best performance of that actor/actress in a specific film - not overall career guys, and in this case, Matthew gave a better performance in Dallas Buyers Club than Leo did in Wolf of Wall Street)

Best Dressed Couples
The couples who take fashion silver were actually really close for gold, but the power couples above brought it more. This is another instance where I think any of these gorgeous women's dresses would have been amazing if a nominee wore them.

Best Dressed Couples
And last but not least, these couples' overall looks were great, but little things like Will Smith buttoning up his shirt, Olivia Wilde dressing up her bump a little more and Chris Hemsworth wearing a colour that didn't clash with his wife's dress (or vice versa) is why these couples take fashion bronze.

Hope you enjoyed my first ever Fashion Awards!
